Staunton Music Festivals, Series and Events

Staunton Music Festival
The Staunton Music Festival will celebrate its tenth season in 2007, and has gained a reputation for its adventurous and innovative programming, unusual breadth of repertoire, and performers of international caliber. Festival activities have ranged from Baroque music outdoors to African drumming workshops, romantic chamber music, traditional Japanese music, and premieres of works by contemporary Virginia composers.

Jazz in the Park
Jazz in the Park is a 10-week series of free jazz concerts held at the Stonewall Brigade Bandstand in Gypsy Hill Park on Thursdays at 8 pm during the summer and featuring top quality jazz groups. The season begins in July and runs through August.

Shakin'
Shakin' is a series of good-rockin' concerts held at the Johnson Street Parking Lot in Downtown Staunton on Thursdays from 6-8 pm beginning May thru August. Top professional bands from around the State are featured. Alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages, food sales. Proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations.

The Stonewall Brigade Band
The Stonewall Brigade Band performs at the Stonewall Brigade Bandstand in Gypsy Hill Park each Monday night at 8 pm during June, July and August. The free concerts feature stirring marches, show tunes, popular music, overtures, and selections from American authors. Members are from the Staunton area musical community.

Oak Grove Folk Music Festival
Oak Grove Folk Music Festival is an intimate, family-oriented weekend where folks come to hear music under the trees at Virginia's oldest outdoor theater. The OAK GROVE is located 2 miles west of Verona on Route 612 (I-81 - Exit 227 West) The OAK GROVE is handicapped accessible. There are no camping facilities at OAK GROVE.

Wintergreen Performing Arts
Located in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Wintergreen Performing Arts, Inc. is a non-profit organization that produces a high-quality summer music festival featuring symphonic and chamber concerts, as well as other performing arts programs throughout the year.

Garth Newel Music Center
There is no better place to hear a concert than the Garth Newel Music Center. The combination of world-class artistry, gourmet food, friendly people, and breathtaking scenery make Garth Newel the perfect place to relax and enjoy excellent music. With over 50 concerts each year, we are among the most active chamber music organizations in the United States. Performing the music as it was intended – in a chamber for small, intimate audiences – makes us also truly unique. The setting allows us to truly appreciate the exchange and spontaneity of the musicians as well as the depth and range of the music. Please make yourselves at home and enjoy one of the premier chamber music venues in the United States.

Staunton Festivals and Events

African American Heritage Fest
Staunton's Annual African American Festival features music, food, arts, crafts and fun for everyone. All events are under the big tent in Gypsy Hill Park. There is a Sunday morning worship service followed by a Sunday afternoon for the Gospel Extravaganza!

Fall Foliage Bike Festival
Combine glorious fall foliage and picturesque country roads (some steep hills) with friendly volunteers, delicious Shenandoah Valley food, multiple route options, outstanding rest stops and you have a memorable conclusion to your cycling season. There are ride choices for every one from the novice to the experienced Century rider.

Virginia Hot Glass Festival
Virginia’s only art show devoted to hot glass artistry. Hot glass artists from across the region exhibiting & selling their work in one location. Live demonstrations of Glass Blowing, Flame Working, Bead Making, Sand Casting, Slumping, & Fusing by the various artists. Several demonstration areas. Hosted by Sunspots Studio.

Green Valley Book Fair
Founded in 1971, the Green Valley Book Fair has become famous among book lovers throughout Virginia and the mid-Atlantic region for its great selection and low, wholesale to everyone prices. Located just south of Harrisonburg, Virginia, in the heart of the beautiful Shenandoah Valley.
